Following legal threats from Judicial Watch, Washington, D.C. officials are now removing over 100,000 invalid names from the voter rolls.

Judicial Watch announced Friday,

“We sent notice letters to election officials in the District of Columbia, California, and Illinois, notifying them of evident violations of the National Voter Registration Act(NVRA) of 1993, based on their failure to remove inactive voters from their registration rolls.”

“In response to our inquiries, Washington, DC, officials admitted that they had not complied with the NVRA, promptly removed 65,544 outdated names from the voting rolls, promised to remove 37,962 more, and designated another 73,522 registrations as ‘inactive.’”

The notice letter can be found here:

Following two consecutive general federal elections, the District of Columbia failed to vote, and as a result, “zero voter registrations in the last two-year reporting period” were removed, according to the notice letter sent to the state.

Under the NVRA’s change of address provisions, 46 California counties reported either deleting a few registrations or none at all, or failing to provide any data at all. In these 46 counties, over 14 million people are registered to vote.

57 Illinois counties reported deleting 15 or fewer registrations under the NVRA’s change of address removal procedures, or they did not provide any data at all. In these 57 counties, there are more than five million voters registered to vote.
