Former President Donald Trump is suing E. Jean Carroll. After a civil jury determined that the former President did not rape E Jean Carroll at a New York department shop called Bergdorf Goodman in the 1990s, former President Donald Trump filed a slander lawsuit against Carroll.

Tuesday night, Trump’s legal team submitted a complaint in federal court in Manhattan, asking for a retraction of the accusations as well as compensatory and punitive damages.

The new lawsuit appertains statements made by Carroll after the jury’s decision. Despite the court clearing Trump of rape, she insisted that it happened, telling CNN: “Oh yes he did, oh yes he did.”

E. Jean Carroll says Trump is 'incorrect' about civil trial jury

The court filing states, “[Donald Trump] has been the subject of significant harm to his reputation, which, in turn, has yielded an inordinate amount of damages sustained as a result.”

The court’s ruling from last month, which ruled the former President “liable” for sexual assault rather than “guilty,” is presently being appealed by the former President. He was ordered by the court to give Carroll $5 million in restitution.

Trump’s lawsuit is the most recent in their continuing legal conflict. Carroll swiftly started new legal actions after the original court decision and asked for an additional $10 million in damages for libel. The trial is scheduled for January 2024.
