A new report alleges a call between high-ranking German military officials was intercepted by Russia on February 19, 2024, which revealed plans to blow up the Crimean Bridge. The conversation, reported by RT and attributed to the Editor-in-Chief Margarita Simonyan, sheds light on a plan to bomb the Crimean Bridge. The nearly 40-minute audio of the call and a translated transcript can be viewed below.
The conversation reveals a discourse among German military personnel regarding potential targets, including the Crimean Bridge and ammunition depots. Participants discussed the feasibility of using the Taurus missile system and the challenges associated with targeting such locations. Notably, the call includes voices from various branches of the German military, reflecting a comprehensive discussion on operational and strategic aspects of potential military actions against Russia.
However, the intercepted call also unveils deeper divisions within Germany, particularly concerning its stance on the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, as Chancellor Olaf Scholz has faced criticism from within his own ranks, as well as from allies such as the UK and France, for his cautious approach to supplying long-distance Taurus missiles to Ukraine. Scholz however has expressed concerns over the potential escalation of the conflict and the risk of triggering a global nuclear crisis.
On one side of the debate, there is a faction within the German military advocating for a more assertive stance in support of Ukraine, aligning with the interests of the U.S., France, and the UK, arguing that Russia’s actions in Ukraine pose an existential threat, necessitating robust support for Ukrainian forces. Conversely, Chancellor Scholz and others emphasize the need to avoid actions that could exacerbate tensions and lead to a wider conflict.
