The charges against the president’s son for two federal tax violations and one violation of gun laws were approved by U.S. Attorney David Weiss and Assistant United States Attorney Derek Hines, who previously worked for Hunter Biden’s business partner.
Hunter Biden agreed to plead guilty to the charges, which Republicans characterized as a sweetheart deal.
According to his LinkedIn profile, Hines previously served as a special counsel for the private business of former FBI Director Louis Freeh. “Freeh Group International Solutions,” a lobbying company with connections to the Biden family business, was owned by Freeh. When Hines acted as Freeh’s special counsel from 2013 to 2015, their relationship began.
The Bidens’ longtime ally Freeh. The New York Post reported in 2021 that Freeh transferred $100,000 to a trust for Joe Biden’s grandchildren. Freeh asked Hunter about exploring “future work options” with Joe Biden a month before the donation.
The subject of a $3 million deal allegedly negotiated by Hunter Biden, Eric Schwerin, and Freeh was Gabriel Popoviciu, a Romanian real estate tycoon who was under investigation for bribery in 2015. Breitbart News reports that Popoviciu was found guilty and sentenced to seven years in prison. Popoviciu was not imprisoned. Instead, he fled to England, where the Romanian government attempted to extradite him.
Bladon Enterprises paid Robinson Walker, LLC more than $3 million between November 2015 and May 2017. According to the House Oversight Committee, Gabriel Popoviciu used Bladon Enterprises, a Cypriot company, to conduct business in Romania. The business associate of the Biden family who is accused of sending $1.3 million to the family is Robinson Walker.
The committee revealed in May that, after Bladon Enterprises deposits, the Robinson Walker, LLC account transferred roughly $1.038 million to the Biden family accounts. In total, Joe Biden was vice president when Bladon Enterprises made 16 of the 17 payments to Robinson Walker, LLC.
