A Republican resolution to formally begin an investigation into President Joe Biden’s impeachment has been approved by the GOP-led House.
Reluctant, more moderate Republican lawmakers began to support their party’s investigative efforts on Wednesday, partly because the White House informed the three GOP-led congressional committees heading the investigation that its subpoenas were invalid without a formal House vote to authorize the inquiry.
Three committees heading the investigation have conducted interviews with officials from the Justice Department and Internal Revenue Service since former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy began the probe in September. They have also obtained a plethora of new bank records and documents, including those from members of the Biden family.
Republicans have not yet found any solid evidence to support their wild accusations against Biden, despite sending out fresh subpoenas and setting up additional depositions, including those with the president’s brother and son. Since the investigation’s inception, there has only been a single hearing in which the Republican-called expert witnesses conceded that the GOP investigators had not yet provided sufficient proof to support their allegations.
