In a closed-door testimony to Congress on Monday, a recently retired FBI agent corroborated claims made by two IRS whistleblowers by stating that the FBI informed Joe Biden’s team and the Secret Service in the fall of 2020 about a plan to question Hunter Biden in connection with his criminal tax investigation.
The FBI agent, who was assigned to the Baltimore field office and collaborated with IRS whistleblowers on the Hunter Biden case, provided new evidence of purported political interference in the treatment of Joe Biden’s son in a transcribed interview before the House Oversight and Accountability Committee.
He confirmed key details of the story IRS whistleblower Gary Shapley and a second agent provided to Congress last month, including the claim that the tip-off prevented law enforcement from conducting a surprise interview with Hunter Biden about possible tax offenses in early December 2020.
The agent, whose identity was withheld at first, said that the bureau tipped off both the Secret Service and Joe Biden’s transition office, preventing the scheduled interview.
Shapley explained how the tipoff around December 8, 2020, was a significant setback for the inquiry and one of several occasions in which political favoritism and meddling happened in his testimony to the House Ways and Means Committee back in May.
“I was informed that FBI headquarters had notified Secret Service headquarters and the transition team about the planned actions the following day,” Shapley testified.

He went on to say that the warning gave Hunter Biden and his team “an opportunity to obstruct” the investigation.
Shapley and his IRS coworker are expected to give their first public testimony on Wednesday before a panel led by House Oversight and Accountability Chairman James Comer. According to officials, a transcript of the FBI agent’s corroborating testimony is anticipated to be made public within the next few days.
