Deceased Body Pulled From Obama Martha Vineyard’s Estate

The body of a paddleboarder who vanished in a Martha’s Vineyard pond close to former President Barack Obama’s house has been found by authorities.

On Monday morning, police in Edgartown, Massachusetts, said that the hunt for a 43-year-old unidentified African American man had been suspended after he submerged himself while paddle boarding at the community’s Great Pond.

Around 7.40 p.m. on Sunday, the issue was first reported to first responders. The pond was searched by a number of local authorities as well as the US Coast Guard. It is close to the Obamas’ 2019 purchase of a 30-acre waterfront residence in Turkeyland Cove.

Authorities were informed by another paddleboarder who was present when the incident occurred that he witnessed the man battle to stay on the surface before submerging. Later on that day, the victim’s paddle board and cap were discovered.

The man’s remains were recovered from the pond on Monday at 10 a.m. after being located by the Massachusetts Environmental Police using sonar technology.

“The recovery was made approximately 100 feet from shore at a depth of about eight feet,” a spokesperson for Massachusetts State Police said in a statement

Just hours before news emerged of a body being recovered from the scene, MSP had paused rescue efforts.

“After several hours of searching last night, efforts to locate the missing paddle boarder were unsuccessful and the operation was paused to allow dive teams, flight crews, and other responders to re-equip and assess next steps. Search assets are currently resuming operations at this time,” an earlier statement read.

The pond expands 890 acres and is commonly used for recreational swimming, boating and fishing.

A MSP representative declined to confirm or deny whether there was a link between the deceased man, and Barack Obama. Also unknown is if Mr. Obama is currently residing at the house.

MSP said the individual’s name will be released later on Monday.
