James Comer Demands NARA Provide All Documents for VP Biden’s Secret Pseudonym ‘Robert L. Peters’
James Comer, the chair of the House Oversight Committee and a Republican from Kentucky, asked on Thursday that the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) turn over all records and correspondence in which Joe Biden, then the vice president, used aliases such “Robert Peters,” “Robin Ware,” and “JRB Ware.”
In a letter to NARA, Comer asked access to papers and correspondence from Joe Biden, who was then vice president, about official duties that conflicted with his son’s actions in Ukraine. Comer stated the pseudonyms.
Comer claims that the committee has already received one email that has an attachment with the vice president’s itinerary, indicating that he had a phone conversation with Petro Poroshenko, the former president of Ukraine. The vice president’s son, Hunter Biden, was copied on the email that was addressed to “Robert L. Peters”.
During the Obama administration, Joe Biden was assigned as the lead person for Ukraine’s foreign policy. According to the House Oversight Committee, Joe Biden threatened in 2015 to halt U.S. assistance to Ukraine unless the country’s president dismissed prosecutor Viktor Shokin, who was in charge of an inquiry into the Ukrainian energy corporation Burisma Holdings.
In order to secure the Hunter Biden “brand,” Burisma agreed to pay him $83,000 per month for a board position. Devon Archer, a close friend and business acquaintance of Biden, recounted the deal.
Years later, in 2018, Joe Biden bragged about the firing of Shokin, which he pushed for during an official visit to Ukraine in 2015.
“I said, ‘I’m telling you, you’re not getting the billion dollars.’ I said, ‘you’re not getting the billion. I’m going to be leaving here in, I think it was about six hours,’” Biden told the audience. “I looked at them and said, ‘I’m leaving in six hours. If the prosecutor is not fired, you’re not getting the money.’ Well, son of a bitch. He got fired.”
Comer asked NARA on Tuesday for all unredacted records in which former Vice President Joe Biden used an alias in connection with his dealings with Ukraine. Comer clarified that he is looking for an email with the subject line “Email Messages To and/or From Vice President Biden and Hunter Biden related to Burisma and Ukraine.” Comer said that the email with a document attached was addressed to Joe Biden under the alias “Robert L. Peters”:
The case number 2023-0022-F, headed “Email Messages To and/or From Vice President Biden and Hunter Biden related to Burisma and Ukraine,” has been made public on NARA’s website. The Committee is requesting unfettered privileged access to it under the PRA. In accordance with the PRA and FOIA, these records have been redacted for public release. An email with the subject “Friday Schedule Card,” for instance, is partially withheld due to “P6” and “b(6)” restrictions, which, under the PRA and FOIA, respectively, signify prohibitions on the release of personal information about the subject.
A document that reveals Vice President Biden spoke with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko at 9:00 am on May 27, 2016, is attached to this email and made available on the NARA website. The fact that this document was sent to “Robert L. Peters”—a fictitious name the Committee has determined to be former Vice President Biden—concerns the Committee, nevertheless. The Committee also wonders why the son of the vice president at the time, Hunter Biden, and no one else, was copied on this email.
