Abe Hamadeh leads Arizona House primary following Trump endorsement

Arizona GOP House candidate Abe Hamadeh has gained a significant lead over his primary opponents following the endorsement of former President Donald Trump. Hamadeh, who previously ran for state attorney general in 2022, announced his candidacy for the seat within hours of incumbent GOP Rep.

Debbie Lesko’s decision not to seek reelection. Trump endorsed his candidacy in early December. A National Public Affairs survey from December 16-17 showed Hamadeh drawing 37% support among likely Republican voters.

Trailing him were former Arizona Senate candidate Blake Masters with 14%, state House Speaker Ben Toma with 7%, former Rep. Trent Franks with 6%, and state Sen. Anthony Kern with 3%. Lesko endorsed Toma’s candidacy. The survey questioned 418 likely Republican voters with a margin of error of +/- 4.8%.

POLITICO reports that Republican Abe Hamadeh has gained a double-digit lead over his closest primary opponent in the race to succeed retiring Republican Rep. Debbie Lesko in Arizona’s 8th District.

According to the poll, conducted by National Public Affairs, Hamadeh clams 37 percent of support from likely Republican primary voters, followed by Blake Masters with 14 percent.
