According to a comprehensive report by the Reuters media organization, former President Donald Trump is the only alive president whose ancestors did not own slaves.

More than 100 U.S. leaders, which include legislators, presidents, governors, and justices, have slave owning forebears, according to Reuters’ inquiry into how many notable legislators, high court judges, and heads of state are linked to slavery.

“Among 536 members of the last sitting Congress, Reuters determined at least 100 descend from slaveholders, of that group, more than a quarter of the Senate – 28 members – can trace their families to at least one slaveholder,” states the news outlet.

They admitted every living president, including Barack Obama, had ties to slave owners.

The article stated, “Trump’s ancestors came to America after slavery was abolished.”

“In addition, President Joe Biden and every living former U.S. president – except Donald Trump – are direct descendants of slaveholders: Jimmy Carter, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton and – through his white mother’s side – Barack Obama.”
